WALKING FOR WELLBEING – OR JUST FOR FUN

Statistics show that regular walking can significantly improve your health and wellbeing. So why not give your legs a stretch?

Walking is the ideal exercise for everyone, requiring little by way of equipment, expense or special skills. It's suitable for people of all ages and from all walks of life.

Here are some healthy walking facts:

  • Regular walking can reduce the risk of coronary heart disease, which kills almost 8000 people in Wales every year
  • Regular walking reduces the risk of health problems such as coronary heart disease, strokes, diabetes, high blood pressure, bowel cancer, Alzheimer’s disease, osteoporosis, arthritis, anxiety and stress
  • Walking regularly improves confidence, stamina, energy, weight control and life expectancy
  • People are more likely to start and continue walking if they have fun, feel safe, enjoy their surroundings and feel a sense of achievement

If you'd like to build more walking into your fitness regime, why not join an organised walk led by one of the Brecon Beacons National Park's professional, well-qualified and knowledgeable walking guides?

There are plenty to choose from, including leisurely strolls and challenging hikes.
