Waterfall Country is an enchanting part of the Brecon Beacons National Park and of Fforest Fawr Geopark, and the Waterfalls Centre in the village of Pontneddfechan provides a great starting point for any exploration of this beautiful area.
The Centre houses an exciting interactive exhibition telling the story of Fforest Fawr Geopark and its many wonders, the formation of the waterfalls and the part that rocks have played in the lives of people of this area through history to the present time.
It's an ideal place to start a walk along one of the many paths to the waterfalls and to visit the intriguing remains of the gunpowder works and silica mines which hint at the hive of activity and industry that once filled this now tranquil place.
One experience never to be forgotten is the walk behind the curtain of falling water at Sgwd yr Eira (literally the 'fall of snow')! Derek Brockway's Weatherman Walking TV series also features a walk in this area.
The Centre is staffed by extremely knowledgeable Information Officers, who will be pleased to give you all the advice you need to enjoy this spectacular part of the National Park. Whilst there you can purchase those all important maps and guides, including the exclusive Waterfalls Country Pack. Also in stock are many other essential items for your walk to the waterfalls, as well as a variety of gifts and souvenirs to remind you of your visit.
The Centre houses the popular Geopark exhibition that tells the geological story of the Brecon Beacons over hundreds of millions of years. Take the time to explore the interactive facilities, and watch Ivor Coleman's Geopark film that brings the prehistory of the area to life.
