Llangattock Hillside walk – the hard way – and rewards to match

One of the largest upland limestone cliffs in South Wales.

This more challenging walk takes int he whole southward view from Crickhowell, climbing Llangattock Hillside, travelling the old quarry tramways and takin in Craig y Cilau National Nature Reserve.  The route then heads back down to Crickhowell by farm tracks and the Mon and Brec Canal.  Rewarded with vistas back across Crickhowell to the Black Mountains and packed with industrial and natural history.

Walk information: 

Grade: Energetic (not suitable for young children)

Walk: 12 km/ 7 1/2 miles

Ascent: 425m (1400ft)

Time: 4 1/2 -5 hours 

Terrain: Quiet lanes, fields and rough stony paths.  14 stiles mostly without dog gates.  Sheep and some cattle grazing.
