TOM DUNCAN THE PAINTINGS & WATER COLOURS OF IRELAND

The eighteenth century in Ireland was a relatively prosperous period compared to the difficulties of the preceding two hundred years. Creation
of wealth led to demand for luxury goods – including landscape and portrait paintings. Tom will explore the works of James Latham, Hugh Douglas Hamilton (the equal of any artist in England!), Thomas Roberts, William Ashford and others. From the mid nineteenth century until today, Irish painters mirror the main European movements. This talk will chart these movements in outline introducing images mostly unknown except to specialists.
