To the top of Talybont Reservoir

Starting off on the Brecon & Monmouthshire Canal, this more demanding ride follows the way-marked Taff Trail through the small villages of Llanfrynach, Pencelli and Aber, to the picturesque shores of the expansive Talybont Reservoir.
From here it crosses the ornate dam to trace the line of the long defunct Brecon & Merthyr Railway on a gradual but lengthy climb up through the forest. The views are second to none, beneath your feet lies the slender sweep of the reservoir whilst ahead in the distance, the steep-sided valley leads your eye effortlessly towards the dramatic sight of the highest peaks in the whole National Park.
There’s a picnic spot at Blaen-y-glyn which, at the halfway point, is perfectly placed to top your energy levels up for the return leg. Alternatively, make a short detour into the pretty village of Talybont-on-Usk, and enjoy the hospitality of one of the numerous pubs or the tea shop.
