My name is Emma, and I am proud to live in the Brecon Beacons. I am a mum, artist, tutor, events organiser and gallery curator.
The wool I use in my felt making is sourced locally, or from smallholders and suppliers in Britain, and usually hand-dyed. Using local wool creates another link between myself and the landscape, and I enjoy knowing the story behind my fleece, and the farmers who provide it.
I use traditional techniques such as wet felting, and more modern methods of needle felting, often combining the two. All my creations are lovingly hand-crafted in my studio. I create a variety of designs and receive many commissions for bespoke pieces. Due to the handmade nature of my work, each piece is unique.
The bespoke handmade felt, is created from Welsh and native, responsibly sourced wool, and I love to combine traditional skills with contemporary designs. Felt-making allows me to explore my relationship with nature and the environment, to create art whilst being hands-on and immerse myself in its tactile and soothing processes, drawing on the inspiration of the Brecon Beacons and Black Mountains, where I grew up. As a qualified tutor and artist, I love to teach as well as create, and run many workshops across Wales and over the borders too.”
