Hidden off the beaten track in between the Brecon Beacons and the Black Mountains is one of Wales’s best-kept secrets. Among the old trees, spacious lawns and with a commanding view of the River Usk is Gliffaes Country House, built-in 1888. The same family has run the house as a hotel and fly-fishing lodge since 1948. Gliffaes has 33 acres of grounds and 2.5 miles of prime wild brown trout fishing on the River Usk. These few pointers might help you; We are about: • Quality, not conformity • Serious comfort • Relaxation • Great food and wine • Activities galore • Genuine friendliness that doesn’t come out of a corporate staff manual • First-hand experience of children and their demands – we have two of our own! We are not about: • Ostentation • Hustle and bustle • Overpriced food • Making you feel like a number in a production line • Pretention • Identical and clinical rooms • Trouser presses • Paying through the nose. Don’t just take my word for it, Gliffaes has been chosen by the Daily Telegraph’s Travel Team as one of, ‘Britain’s Top 100 Affordable Hotels’ and only one of five in Wales and we have just received a 5-star review from the Daily Mail’s Hotel Inspector. Wales’s Official Tourism body, Visit Wales, have just given Gliffaes a Gold Award for 2020.
