Upstairs at the Cheese Market

Beautiful self-catering apartment in the centre of Hay-on-Wye, famed for its secondhand bookshops, literary festival and stunning local scenery.

Built c1835 as Hay’s town hall, the twin-arched red sandstone building was rescued by the local community.  The ground floor has been restored as a thriving market hall, and the first floor, once Hay’s manorial courtroom, has been converted into a holiday apartment for two.

Elevated above the square you are at the centre of the action when you would like to be but peacefully removed when you want to relax.  Flooded with natural light from the high ceiling and many windows, the apartment has unrivaled views of Hay Castle, and on market days you can watch over the bustling square with its eclectic array of local produce and flea market stalls.

Whether exploring Hay’s many independent boutiques and bookshops, or the stunning local scenery of the Black Mountains and Brecon Beacons, the centrally located Upstairs at the Cheese Market makes the perfect base for your stay.

The Cheese Market is Managed by the Hay-on-Wye Community Enterprise CIC, a not-for-profit company that supports community projects with funds raised through the Cheese Market apartment and market hall. Click for information.
