Located in the Brecon Beacons National Park, Merryfields Barn is a luxury 2-bedroom barn set in grounds of two acres, less than a mile from the beautiful Georgian town of Crickhowell, 2018 UK High Street of the year. It is a haven for birdwatchers, with buzzards, red kites, peregrine falcons and our resident family of Tawny Owls.
A short walk takes you to the Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal, with its newly-refurbished footpaths, narrow boats, kingfishers and bluebells. Further down the road is a restaurant with bar and 9-hole golf course in the pretty village of Llangattock, recently voted theUK’s greenest village with its narrow alleyways, 13th century church and a proper village pub.
The barn is within walking distance of beautiful Crickhowell town and has glorious views of the Black Mountains (including the Sugar Loaf and Table Mountain) and River Usk valley to the front and Llangattock Escarpment to the rear. The property is a stunning barn conversion built to high specifications by the owners and is fossil fuel-free, with solar panels and an air-source heat pump to ensure you’ll never be cold.
At the front is a well-stocked orchard, pond and private patio area and at the back is a large, private patio area with a barbecue and enclosed paddock with a small stream. The River Usk and charming towns of Llangattock and Crickhowell are less than a mile away. Completed in 2009, the property has oak beams, doors and floors upstairs and limestone floors with under-floor heating throughout downstairs. All rooms, including both bedrooms (one with a king size bed, the other with two single beds) boast lovely views of the surrounding area. There’s a Japanese square bath and a modern, walk-in shower/wet room. The oak kitchen is fully-equipped and the utility room has a washing machine and tumble dryer.
The barn has a modern, cosy feel throughout. There are two sets of oak French doors which can be opened onto paved patio areas, with garden furniture, a barbecue area and those fabulous views all around.
