Choose to stay in Gablebach, a 17th century stable and former groom’s loft overlooking the village green, or Y Golchdy, a former laundry room turned tranquil romantic hideaway. In both cottages, we’ve paid careful attention to the smallest detail, with each piece of vintage and antique furniture thoughtfully chosen and cleverly paired with every modern accessory.
From the 1920s’ French antique bed to the small Welsh dresser which belonged to the owner’s grandmother, the quintessential country cottage of Gablebach is exquisitely furnished. On arrival, you’ll find freshly homemade cakes waiting in the bespoke kitchen, which in turn is warmed by a gleaming Aga range cooker. The spacious en-suite bathroom has the extravagant feel of a 1920s’ powder room, where you can relax in the gorgeous copper bath at the end of the day with a glass of wine, gazing out of the discreet window onto the renowned Dark Skies evenings!
Y Golchdy, surrounded by undulating countryside and enjoying an elevated position over the Tywi Valley, faces the Black Mountain (Mynydd Du). Breathe in the view from the hot tub, which sits under cover on a private veranda – the perfect spot for breakfast and barbecues! Inside, the country-style kitchen was crafted by a local builder, with a worktop made from old chapel pews. The original brick fireplace has a wood-burning stove, creating a delightfully cosy retreat in which to curl up in the cabin bed with your favourite holiday read.
Set in the Tywi Valley, where a campaign is underway for a designated area of outstanding natural beauty, Black Mountain Escapes is a short stroll from three pubs, a shop, Post Office and butcher’s. The river Tywi is a tranquil place to skim stones or dip your toes on a hot day, while the charming towns of Llandovery and Llandeilo are just five miles away and brimming with coffee shops, bars, restaurants, shops and galleries. And of course, the majestic Llyn y Fan Fach – home to the legendary ‘lady of the lake’ – awaits explorers in the shadow of the Black Mountain.
