Talybont Reservoir

One for the more energetic family, this ride follows a well-surfaced and traffic free section of the Taff Trail from the dam of the magnificent Talybont Reservoir, where there's plenty of car parking and a campsite, to the scenic picnic area at Torpantau.

The route follows the line of the disused Brecon & Merthyr Railway and climbs steadily through the forest for over 5 miles to meet a quiet moorland road above Blaen-y-glyn. The picnic area is in the car park on the other side of the road, where you may want to walk down a little to look at some of the many waterfalls in the forest (remember your lock if you're leaving your bike).

If an 11-mile round trip is a little bit too much for you, don't worry, simply follow the outward leg for as far you can fancy and then turnaround to enjoy an effortless downhill cruise all the way back to the shores of the reservoir.
