The route begins with a short, but steep climb over a canal bridge. The route is linear (and uphill from Talybont-on-Usk), but it is possible to return to the village on the minor road on the west side of the Talybont Reservoir and add some loops via forestry tracks. The surface is either stony or compacted earth although it can be bumpy where there are lots of the exposed stone sleepers on the surface. How to get there: Talybont-on-Usk is just off the A40 between Crickhowell and Brecon. The Brinore Tramroad starts (or ends) behind the White Hart Inn in Talybont-on-Usk. Head over the steep, but short canal bridge and follow the route gently uphill out of the village.

Distance: The route has a few gates, but is barrier-free for at least 5km.

Facilities: There is a shop and Post Office with National Park information and several pubs in Talybont-on-Usk.

Parking: Roadside parking in Talybont-on-Usk is limited. There is a car park at the village hall (Henderson Hall) and near the Talybont Reservoir.

Toilets: Basic public toilets are located next to the White Hart Inn in Talybont-on-Usk. The nearest disabled access toilets are at Llansantffraed lay-by on the A40.
