COLLABOR8 - an exciting new project funded by the EU's Interreg IVB North West Europe programme.
The Brecon Beacons National Park Authority is a partner in the project and is working with local businesses to ensure that tourism in the National Park is sustainable. That means ensuring the National Park can be enjoyed by both visitors and local people alike, today and in the future.
Sustainable tourism means more than being green. It means a high quality, locally distinctive experience that helps keep our special environment as just that – special! Ensuring that what the National Park offers to visitors is a quality experience you just can’t find anywhere else means you’ll come back! Ensuring that what we do here is environmentally friendly means that future generations will be able to do the same.
Local businesses are being encouraged to work together in groups (what we call ‘clusters’) and will be supported to improve tourism in the National Park to help make a better place for people to visit and live. Businesses will be encouraged to develop new products and services, achieve a green-grading which guarantees they are taking their responsibilities towards the environment seriously and undertake training to understand the special natural and cultural qualities of the National Park. They can then pass this information on to enhance their visitors’ experience.
There are nine Collabor8 partners across Europe. Further details of the Brecon Beacons element of the project can be found at COLLABOR8 Project Description
