Working on the National Park stand at the Brecon show

Spent today on the National Park stand at the Brecon show. On the drive up I was listening to the news on the radio when they announced that there had been a foot and mouth outbreak on a farm in Surrey - not good news. When we arrived at the show there where no livestock there at all however it was still quite busy throughout the day. I’d organized that we’d be making bird feeders at various points throughout the day and the activity seemed to go down well with the kids although it turned out to be pretty messy. Quite a lot of lard left at the end of the day - no quite sure what we’re going to do with it!

Right at the end of the day there was some falconry displays going on in the ring opposite our stand. The falconer brought out a relatively young bird who had just begun it’s training and let it fly around a bit. But when he tried to call it back the falcon decided it didn’t want to play ball and headed for the hills! After around 20 minutes of whistling the falcon appeared to be returning, it circled the ring a few times and looked like it was going to land, but then it appeared to loose confidence and flew off again towards the hills….and that was the last we saw of it - felt really sorry for the falconer but at least the falcon was free!
