I began employment with the National Parks in 1978 as a supervisor with the manpower services programme. This was for 2 years and involved in coppicing and woodland clearance followed by fencing off the site and tree planting the whole area. I returned in 1984 and continued to this present day.

On leaving school I joined the police force for 5 years based mainly in London. The next  2-3 years my work involved mainly agriculture, building sites and working for the P.G.L  childrens holiday adventure camp at Llangorse. I also worked for a short spell at Windsor Safari Park as one of three people in charge of baboons.

I have hitchhiked extensively across Europe and after grape picking in France I ended up in Israel where I worked for 3 ½ years. The work consisted mainly of landscape gardening ,agriculture and the installation of advanced drip irrigation systems. During this time I spent  about 9 months working down on the Dead Sea involved in similar work . The place was great historically and visually from Lebonon in the north to the tip of Sinai and the coral reefs in the south. I left because I did not want to join the army and being shot at.

Other places I have been to include  Nepal visually fantastic , Vietnam and Cambodia historically and politically demanding given the visual impact of the atrocities that had taken place,  Egypt historically overwhelming but chaotic .New Zealand brilliant hence I understand why so many people want to emigrate there and Canada where cycling in the Rockies was not to say demanding but greatly enjoyable. In 1995 and 1998 I went to Costa Rica  and  South Africa respectively as part of the International Rangers forum come seminar. The actual forum was for one week with the usual mixture of seminars and site visits. I then chose to what is called shadow work  for 2 weeks and then have 2 weeks trying to take in the country and what it had to offer. Costa Rica obviously very Latin American in outlook has the most percentage of its land dedicated to conservation out of any country on this planet. In South Africa I was based in the Kruger National Park was brilliant re  the animal life and the scenery .Get the impression that were it not for the tourism aspect and given the change in the political outlook the country has the ability to self destruct. Last in September 2000 I took part in the rangers exchange programme for 1 year. I was based at a conservation park called Mount Remarkable in South Australia. Stuart my opposite number was obviously based in Brecon. The place was so big not enough time to really take it all in. I spent a week up at Ayres Rock shadow working and scrub burning with the Aboriginals. The love come hate relationship with the poms is interesting. I am currently renovating a house at Libanus.
