Advice Centres

A planning officer is made available to provide advice on planning matters. The advice centre is operated on a drop-in basis so no appointment is necessary. This service is part of National Park Authority’s effort to further improve customer service.

The duty planning officer can provide advice on future proposals/applications, planning policies and general planning matters. The duty officer is provided on a rota basis so a specific officer is not available at any given time. Consequently, the duty officer will not be in a position to offer specific advice on current applications.

Information that you should bring

If you have a proposal to discuss it would be to your advantage to bring as much information as possible, e.g. photographs, plans, a location plan/map, details of any previous developments/uses on the site. Please note if your enquiry refers to an old/decided application and you do not know the application reference number, it is advisable to telephone to arrange an appointment prior to attending surgery to carry out a property history search. If you do have the planning reference number then please telephone in advance to request that the file is made available for surgery.

Prior to attending you may find it beneficial to refer to the Authority Approved Unitary Development Plan which set out the policies the Authority takes into account when assessing proposals. Reference copies of these documents should be available in local libraries and the National Park Office. They can also be viewed on this website.

If you would like to know whether planning permission is required for a proposed development, you should formally apply for a Certificate of Lawful Proposed Development for which we have a statutory obligation to provide a decision within 8 weeks.

Requests for planning application forms and routine queries can still be obtained any time by calling the Planning Helpdesk in the Development Control Administration section on 01874 620431 or emailing planning.enquiries@breconbeacons.org .
