Brecon welcomes the start of Beacons Bus season
Sunday May 25th will see the restart of the popular Beacons Bus service.
Local shops, tearooms and businesses in Brecon will be open for business from Sunday 25th May, marking the start of the Beacons Bus season for the National Park.
Beacons Bus is a network of specially commissioned buses which will run from 8 major towns and cities bringing people into and around the Brecon Beacons National Park from 25th May (Whitson Bank Holiday) until 28th September.
Visitors to Brecon will be able to stock up on their outdoor gear from Cotswold Outdoor and Millets and browse the unusually unusual interiors of Oh!, the broad range of original art and prints of A-Frame and the second hand books at Mortons.
Gifts and cards of every sort will be on sale at Welsh Flair and Sirius, as well as at Birthday & Balloons and Collectomania. Those who are creative will be able to stock up on supplies from Carole’s Crafts.
Brecon Cathedral is a wonderful place to start your discovery of Brecon with its well stocked gift store, The Heritage Centre (open from 12pm) and Pilgrims tearooms located in the cathedral grounds. Brecknock Museum and Art Gallery is open from 12pm and in August this will be complimented by The Regimental Museum also opening its doors on a Sunday.
The George Hotel will be offering teas and coffees all day as well as lunches from 12-2.30pm. However, the highlight of any trip to Brecon has to be the locally produced ice-cream from Llanfaes Dairy, always available in a variety of flavours!
People arriving in the town can explore the canal towpath with a scenic walk to Brynich lock or take the footpath along the River Usk to the Promenade where refreshments are available. Pedalos and rowing boats can also be hired for a day on the river. In July and August the midday canal trip fits in perfectly with the bus times, but of course, those not constrained by a bus timetable can enjoy this outing at different times every Sunday throughout the summer.
People arriving on the buses will be handed the Sunday Opening Information sheet as well as a town guide. For those arriving independently in the town these can be picked up from the Brecon Tourist Information Centre which is also open on Sundays from 9.30am –4pm or telephone 01874 622485.
