A fine feast for foodies
THE mouth watering Brecon Beacons Food Festival is 10 years old on Saturday, October 6 and promises something for every discerning palate. The aroma-filled day will be officially launched at 10.00am in the Market Hall by Huw Irranca-Davies, Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Wales.
There will be more than 90 food and drink exhibitors participating in this very special anniversary event, offering a veritable cornucopia of gourmet delights including a stunning variety of cheeses, honey, bread of all shapes and sizes, fresh, smoked and cooked meats and fish, delicious ice creams, and a bewildering array of jams.
And everywhere you go in Brecon you will find exhibitors – strung out along The Struet, baking in Bethel Square, mingling in the Market Hall and loitering with intent outside Lloyds Bank in the town centre, many of them cooking up a feast in front of your eyes.
Not only does the Brecon Beacons Food Festival offer you the opportunity to indulge your passion for gourmet food and drink, it also gives you the opportunity watch, enjoy and perhaps even participate in live cookery demonstrations using exceedingly fresh and local Welsh Food. And you could pick up some very useful kitchen tips from S4C Celebrity chef Dudley Newberry who will rustle up several delicious dishes with no less than five live demonstrations outside Lloyds Bank during the course of the day.
You can also sit back and enjoy healthy eating demonstrations by the Welsh Culinary Olympic Chefs on stage in the Market Hall. They should also inspire you to create fun and easy nutritional dishes using produce from the many local exhibitors at the event.
Chefs include Dudley Newberry, Nick Davies and Arwyn Watkins. They will be aided by Roger William MP, Kirsty Williams AM and Derek ‘the weather’ Brockway of BBC Wales who will also have a go at producing a dish fit for … eating!
And added to all this frenetic cooking activity you will also find an eclectic collection of arts and crafts (don’t forget - it’s time to start collecting those Christmas presents!!) - a surefire recipe for success!
Whether it’s healthy eating, wine and ale tasting or food demonstrations, or a browse around the craft stalls, you’re sure to find something that tickles your fancy – and your taste-buds - at this year’s very special 10th anniversary Brecon Beacons Food Festival.
