Student Placements & Volunteering

For long-term placements the Brecon Beacons National Park provides excellent opportunities to improve knowledge and skills relating to environmental topics.

Student Placements

Currently there are no opportunities for student placements within the National Park at this time, however as soon as more funding becomes available we hope to be able to develop a database of projects that would provide research or practical experience for undergraduate and postgraduate students.

If you have a particular area of interest that you feel you might be able to pursue through a placement at the Park, or are looking for ideas for project work, please let us know.

For more information please write to Education Department, Brecon Beacons National Park Authority, Plas-y-Ffynnon, Cambrian Way, Brecon, Powys LD3 7HP or telephone 01874 620463.

Please note that any placements are unpaid and we are regrettably unable to offer assistance with any living costs.

Volunteering

We are still recruiting volunteers for specific projects including the Warden’s Work Parties, various work in the grounds of the National Park Visitor Centre and Craig-y-Nos Country Park, guided walk administration, data entry and structural surveys.

We are also interested to hear from volunteers who may be able to help us with projects set for 2013 and are developing ‘pools’ of volunteers for 2013 projects such as the Welcome Warden Scheme at Gwuan hepste  (in waterfall country) and ecology surveys. We are also interested in hearing from people who could staff stalls at events in the Spring/Summer.

New ‘Volunteer Induction Packs’ have been developed and are being sent to our new volunteers which include information on the Authority, the National Park and information on our shopping discounts etc. (If any of our current volunteers would like one of these, please contact Huw Price).

If you may be able to offer your time to the Authority on any of our projects or would like more information, please contact: Huw Price on 01874 624437.
