Tor y Foel Trek.

How would you get help on a mountain, keep a casualty alive or make an emergency shelter? Find out all the answers and use your skills to build a bivouac to brave the Welsh weather!

Course description:  This course can be combined with a short morning course such as Mammals of the Wood to provide a varied day session. This 3 mile (4.7km) walk starts from Danywenallt and passes through mixed woodland to the top of Tor y Foel (551m) which has spectacular views of the surrounding countryside.

Main Activity: The walk leads through a mixture of deciduous and coniferous woodland. These different habitats and man’s influence on the environment are explored through a series of games en route. The walk also includes a stretch of an historic tramroad where the children can look for evidence of the industrial past.

As they ascend, the children take part in an activity which explains the formation of the four major rock types of the National Park and how ice has shaped the landscape they can see around them. From the summit, panoramic views of the surrounding landscape, can be enjoyed (weather permitting!), including a variety of settlements, land use and transport links. There is a choice of routes for the return leg of this circular walk. The longer route is a distance of 4 miles(6.4km).
