Nightjar

This secretive bird is a summer visitor to the National Park. Its mottled brown and grey feathers keep it concealed on the ground druing the day until evening when its distinct churring song is most likely to give it away.

These nocturnal birds are found on heaths and moors, but more recently they have favoured nesting on areas of recently cleared coniferous plantation. With the number of conifer plantations in mid Wales that have reached harvesting age now being felled, Nightjars are being more frequently across a wider number of sites.
