Getting Here

Brecon Beacons National Park has excellent rail and motorway links with the rest of the UK, is linked by regular ferry services to Ireland, and is just an hour away from Cardiff International Airport with flights all over the world.

Travel within the National Park

  • From the Midlands, you can get here through Hereford. Llandeilo and Llandovery in the west are on the magical Heart of Wales Line from Swansea.  Merthyr Tydfil in the south has great connections to Cardiff.
  • During Hay Festival (end of May- early June) there is a shuttle bus (Hay Literature Festival) that meets the direct London trains and takes you to Hay.
  • Buses will take you from all these points to Brecon from which local buses or taxis can deliver you to your destination.

BY COACH

  • Coach travellers can get to Brecon via Cardiff and to Abergavenny via Birmingham. Details from National Express or Stagecoach for their X bus services. Cyclists should note that both these companies permit the carrying of packed bikes in bags or cases.

This connects in Brecon with X43 to Abergavenny or Merthyr Tydfil and Cardiff as well as with the 714 to Llandovery. You can purchase through tickets between any of these services but X43 and 714 are not officially part of the TrawsCambria network.
