Getting Around

Even if you have got here by car, try leaving it at your accommodation for a day or a week. There are plenty of things to do without having to get back behind the wheel again. Why bother with the stress of driving - leave that for work!

All sorts of places can be reached without having to get in the car. You can probably walk to many of them from where you are staying anyway. Or, if you have brought your bikes, you will have an even wider range of choices. You can hire bikes here - many places will deliver to your accommodation. Ask your host or visit www.cyclebreconbeacons.com.

Look for accommodation and attractions with the bus symbol. Then download our Discover Guide for lots of ideas of things to do and places to go without the car or get hard copy from an Information Centre or by email.

There is now an excellent pick up and drop off service available from Ride and Hike  - a new company that has just become established in the National Park. They offer a pick up and drop off service, tow a bike trailer, baggage transfer between accommodation, scenic drives and home-made picnics for you to take with you. Phone 07971 527660.

And if you fancy going walking, remember that you can see far more if you don't have to walk back to the beginning - head over the hills or amble along the canal and then get the bus back. No problems about stopping for a drink either!

Beacons Bus

Beacons Bus is there to take you into and around the National Park on summer Sundays and Bank Holidays. It is especially designed for visitors and can take you to many of the area’s attractions. The Cardiff service even tows a bike trailer to Brecon and then plys between there and Abergavenny all day.

Heart of Wales

Enjoy the excellent Heart of Wales Train Line through Llandovery and Llandeilo in the west of the National Park. It is an experience in its own right and takes you from Swansea in the south, all the way up through Mid Wales spa towns like Llanrwtyd Wells, Builth Wells and Llandrindod Wells to Craven Arms and Shrewsbury. Go to the Heart of Wales Line website for a comprehensive guide to this beautiful railway line.
