Usk Reservoir and Glasfynydd Forest

Encircling the remote Usk Reservoir, in the north west corner of the National Park, Glasfynydd Forest hosts an excellent 9km (6mile) family mountain bike route as well as a small but ideally located picnic area.

The reservoir is cradled between the stark uplands of Mynydd Myddfai and Mynydd Wysg and is perfectly placed for great views of the dramatic sweep of the mountainous Carmarthen Fans.

The trail is more demanding than the Garwnant Trail - getting muddy in some places when wet and also sending riders onto a short stretch of road at the dam end of the reservoir. That said, it is a superb challenge for children of 5 years and upwards and will probably take around an hour and a half to complete, without stops.

It's a fairly remote area so a picnic is probably best for lunch. Alternatively, the village of Trecastle is less than 5 miles away.
