Food Festivals

Food Festivals are increasingly popular with more and more locally produced food.

Dates: Hay on Wye (28th June), Abergavenny (20th & 21st Sept) and Brecon (4th Oct) Food Festivals celebrate all that is best about local food with demonstrations, produce stalls and all sorts of food-related activities. Make sure you don’t miss them!

Country shows, farmers' markets and village Eisteddfodau, all offer visitors a taste of life in the National Park.

Black Mountains Welsh Breakfasts

Visit our Black Mountains Welsh Breakfast page for details on where you can stay to enjoy an authentic Welsh Breakfast taste explosion.

Local food producers

There are many local food producers where you can buy directly from the people who work in this excellent landscape.

Farmers' Markets

There are regular Farmers' Markets in Abergavenny (4th Thursday each month) & Brecon (second Saturday each month). They have extremely fresh produce, often allow you to taste before you buy and let you meet the people who have produced it. They are experiences in their own right.

You will find outstanding examples of mountain lamb (look out for Brecknockshire Cheviots, the local breed), local beef, Welsh venison and smoked products of all kinds. There are local cheeses like Y Fenni (Welsh for ‘Abergavenny’) or St Illtyd (who spent a lot of time round here) as well as award winning apple juice, cider, mineral water and delicious ice cream.

Black Mountain Breakfasts

Recently top local chefs produced a series of exciting new recipes called Black Mountain Breakfasts for use by B&Bs and Hotels. Look out for these when booking your bed for the night.
