Paths are either tarmac, compacted earth/grass or concrete grids. Some of the paths are shared with a cycle way and run alongside the river. Castle Meadows is a popular spot for walking, exercising dogs and fishing. The area is part of a large flood plain for the River Usk and as a result the ground can become flooded during the winter and paths can become waterlogged and muddy. The circular route starts from Lower Byfield Lane car park round to Mill Street.  Mobility scooters can be hired from Abergavenny Shopmobility which is located in the Castle Street car park. Abergavenny Castle and Museum is close by. The start of the Llanfoist to Brynmawr Sustrans route is just over 1 mile away. A route map is available from Abergavenny Shopmobility.
