Disability Discrimination Act
In 2005 a new Disability Discrimination Act became law. The act requires public bodies, including national parks, to produce a Disability Equality Scheme (DES). This scheme will set out how we are going to promote disability equality and tackle issues that have been identified by disabled people about our policies and services.
Disability Equality Scheme and Action Plan for 2006 to 2009

The scheme sets out the way in which we have complied with the requirement to carry out our business whilst having regard to the need to:
- eliminate unlawful disability discrimination
- eliminate disability related harassment
- promote equality of opportunities
- promote positive attitudes towards disabled persons
- encourage participation by disabled persons in public life
The Disability Discrimination Act definition of a disabled person includes people with:-
- a sensory impairment; a physical impairment; a learning disability; a mental health difficulty; cancer; HIV or AIDs
