Having worked for the fire brigade for 15 years Cllr Holmes ran a development company and worked as a sales manager for some years. He has held a range of offices as a member of Powys County Council, including chairing the Rights of Way Committee and Sports Committee, as well as Deputy Chairman of the Brecknock Shire Committee. He is a governor at Llangattock Primary School and Crickhowell High School. He was appointed to the National Park Authority in May 2012.
