Cllr Furzer worked as an engineering apprentice and toolmaker before lecturing in Mathematics and Science for Shropshire and Gwent LEAs. He was elected to the Blaenavon ward of Torfaen County Borough Council in May 2012 and subsequently appointed to the National Park Authority.
