Authority Approved Unitary Development Plan
On 26th March the National Park Authority approved the Unitary Development Plan for Development Control Purposes.
The UDP is the most up-to-date policy document for the National Park. It is now the primary document for all planning purposes.
Plan status in relation to Adopted Local Plan:
The UDP is to be afforded greater weight in the determination of planning applications and other planning purposes than the older adopted Local Plan.
Plan status in relation to an Adopted UDP
The Authority Approved UDP carries almost the same weight as an adopted UDP as it has been the subject of all the statutory consultation and procedures of an adopted UDP, with the single exception of not having been formally adopted.
Statutory Development Plan Framework
However, because the UDP has not been formally adopted, the formal position is that that Statutory Development Plan Framework for the National Park consists of the following documents.
i) Adopted Gwent Structure Plan (March 1996)
ii) Mid Glamorgan County Structure Plan: Approved Plan Incorporating Proposed Alterations No.1 (September 1989)
iii) Powys County Structure Plan (replacement) (February 1996)
iv) Dyfed Structure Plan (including Alterations No.1) (November 1990)
v) West Glamorgan Structure Plan (Review No.2) (February 1996)
vi) Brecon Beacons National Park Authority Local Plan (May 1999)
Clearly, a number of these documents are now out of date. It is for this reason that the National Park Authority has approved the UDP for use for Development Control Purposes and considers the UDP to carry considerable weight over the documents listed above.
Publication of Approved UDP Documents
The Authority intend to publish the Authority Approved UDP as soon as is practicable. In the meantime an interim document has been prepared.
