National Park's Chief Executive apologises over Gilestone Report

Chris Gledhill, Chief Executive for Brecon Beacons National Park Authority said:

“Brecon Beacons National Park Authority has been presented with the findings of an independent inquiry into the planning permission granted for a caravan site at Gilestone Farm, in Talybont on Usk.

“The Gilestone Report was presented by its author Julie James of Clarks Legal at a public meeting attended by the Authority’s Members and Chief Officers.

“Members, Chief Officers and I have expressed our shock and embarrassment at the Gilestone Report’s findings.   I can report that the Authority has agreed to implement all of the proposed recommendations.

“To progress this matter, the Authority has nominated three members to monitor the implementation of the recommendations and take a wider investigation into the processes, procedures, systems and controls.  This report will come before the Authority’s Internal Review Committee (IRC).  In addition a report will be prepared on the planning options available which will go to a special meeting of the Planning Access and Rights of Way Committee (PAROW).

“I want to offer my formal and sincere apologies for the failings of the Authority to all those affected including concerned residents, community councils, visitors, Members of the Authority and our staff.

“We are determined to restore public confidence in our planning service and once again, we unreservedly apologise to the community of Talybont on Usk and to our staff who are dedicated to providing a vital service to our residents and visitors.”
