Eco Centre status is awarded to centres that undertake a programme of environmental improvements throughout their work with a view to reducing the impact of our activities on the environment.

What is Eco-Centres?

• Eco-Centres is both a programme and an award scheme.
• Eco-Centres is designed to make environmental awareness and action an intrinsic part of th elife and ethos of a centre for all its staff and visitors.
• Eco-Centres is a long-term programme and the award needs to be renewed every three years.

Why Do the Eco-Centres Award?

Because:

• it is a programme for managing and accrediting work we are already doing.
• it is enjoyable and rewarding, for us and for our visitors.
• we can influence visitors to adopt environmentally friendly behaviours.
• we are able to involve the local community and schools
• it is a way of fostering good links with other Eco-Centres all over Europe.
