New Fforest Fawr Geopark Site

Fforest Fawr is one of a growing international family of Geoparks, each one an area with an important, often extraordinary geological heritage.

However Geoparks are not just about rocks, they are also about people. Fascinating human stories emerge from their unique landscapes. Geoparks celebrate local legends and culture, archaeology and our wider relationship with the land.

The 763 square kilometres (300 square miles) of Fforest Fawr Geopark is situated in the western part of Brecon Beacons National Park. It takes its name from the upland area at its core which has been known for centuries as Fforest Fawr – the ‘Great Forest’. The Geopark covers not just these mountains and moorlands but all of the surrounding wooded valleys and the many communities which nestle within them.

Visit the Fforest Fawr Geopark website to discover more about this place – what natural forces shaped this land, how people re-shaped it, how to enjoy it and how to help look after it.
