Species
The National Park is home to a stunning variety of species. The exact number is not known as many insects, lichens, and fungi have not been comprehensively surveyed. The wide range of habitats present in the Park provide the right conditions for literally thousands of different species. Some of the most important are included on these pages.
Invertebrates are a key groups of animals that are generally simple to accommodate on any site. They are often the first stage in the food chain and so a good population of insects, spiders and snails will soon support more wildlife.
Buglife have produced a simple guide for managing sites for invertebrates, for a number of different habitats.
Birds are some of our most commonly seen and best loved wildlife. From parks and garden alive with song birds to Harriers and Ring Ouzels in the uplands birds can be seen all over the National Park. Find out whats flying around the park at the moment visit the Brecknock Birds website.
