Buildings and urban structures

Our homes, offices, farm buildings and practically every other building offer wildlife a place to make home. Shelter, warmth and protection are required by every animal and so our homes are attractive places to a number of species.

In many respects out stone and brick buildings are similar to natural rock outcrops. These buildings now provide a home to species that would naturally seek similar conditions to those provided by buildings, notably shelter from the elements and protection from predators.

Bats are one of the most common guests to find sharing a house or building. Read more about bats in the National Park or visit the planning pages for advice on bats and development.
