Biodiversity
Biodiversity is a term meaning “biological diversity”. It encompases the entire variety of life on Earth from bacteria and microbes, to birds and humans.
There are three keys aspects to the term Biodiversity;
- The variety of habitats and ecosystems created by communties of plants and animals such as a meadow, a pond or a woodland.
- The variety of species that make up these communties, such as the different flowers in a meadow, insects in a pond, or fungi in a woodland.
- The genetic diversity among members of the same species, such as the slightly different colours, sizes or flowering times of the flowers in a meadow.
