Arts Alive

SDF has supported Arts Alive, a dynamic community arts group based in Crickhowell. Arts Alive encourages young people and adults throughout the community to explore and develop their creative talents.

The High Street Stitch Up

The High Street “Stitch Up” as shown is an exciting community stitching project.  Working with schools and community groups, young and old are coming together, to create two textile banners of the High Street, reflecting “Life in the High Street”.  The banners will be displayed facing one another, inviting the viewer to walk down the High Street in Crickhowell. The first banner is displayed here and the second will be finished shortly.  Please look out for an invitation from Arts Alive to “walk down the High Street” – it really is something special!

Dragon Gateway

The Dragon Gateway explored Dragon myths, legends and symbolism.  Schools, artists, environmental groups, writers, poets, storytellers, performers, musicians and dancers came together to mix their talents.  Individuals and groups from other cultures (living in Wales) were invited to explore, compare and share the significance of the ‘Dragon’ on their culture and ours.  Through outreach work all social groups are involved. This work culminated in a Dragon Festival in Crickhowell in June – so successful it is hope to make this an annual event.

In this Place

The current Arts Alive project “In this Place” is exploring themes such as local distinctiveness, the idea of belonging and alienation, closeness and detachment and how we perceive boundaries.

The project is open to all and if you want to get involved you can contact them at  www.artsalivewales.org.uk.
