The Community and Sustainability team aim to help people who live in the Brecon Beacons put across what matters to them and find ways to conserve and/or develop these things, and support both conventional and innovative approaches to maintaining the National Park as a place to live and work.
The 1995 Environment Act says that National Park Authorities should (while pursuing their conservation and understanding/enjoyment purposes) seek to foster the economic and social well being of local communities within the National Park, but without incurring significant expenditure in doing so. So much of the work is undertaken in partnership with others.
How we can help your group...
By Listening.
The Brecon Beacons National Park Authority set a high standard of public consultation with its Local Plan exercise in the mid-1990s and continues to consult as it draws up new policies and proposals at strategic and local level, including the National Park Management Plan and development plans.
By Partnership.
The National Park Authority is not always best placed to lead, but it can act as a catalyst and be a valuable partner. The National Park Authority can identify need and new directions, offering a unique contribution in the National Park “brand”.
By Support.
The National Park Authority can support local people in realising aspirations for their areas, including with expertise in conservation and management. Other local projects may develop awareness of heritage or culture, or may bring together residents to create a new facility or organise an event.
By Liaison.
The National Park Authority staff work within a huge network of agencies and contacts and can act as a “gateway” for local people into funding regimes, exchanges of good practice and mechanisms for achieving change. The National Park Authority can pass on regional and national information and set up regional, national and even international links.
Keep up to date with the park's news this month.
